Tomas and Lisa made this really nice and sophisticated Gshock together with Casio.
The first collaboration of Gshock with a Dutch brand.
The promo vid was made in Amsterdam, and the beach of Sandvoort.
Styled in Ontfront jackets,pants and dress shirts and Filling Pieces boat tops.

Together with LN-CC's Dan Mitchell we decided to re-do the Filling Pieces Desert Boot model, and release this in 4 diffirent colorways.

A concept of animal skins mixed with suede, and classic rubber black or white soles were the fundament of this capsule collection.

We as Filling Pieces feel honored to be a part of this LN-CC journey, and take place next to big fashion names and houses.

All pieces are limited to 20 pair each color, and 4 pairs a size. At the end, we want to make a statement for design and quality.

The big Dutch men fashionlabel ColdMethod, showed their s/s 2012 ready to wear collection.
For the show, Dieter contacted me to work together on the footwear for the show.
We teamed up and decided to do a non-commercial ( not for retail) Filling Pieces collaboration.

The Filling Pieces Desert boot in 3 different colorways, all made out of suede.

The colors of the show contains Army Green, Electric blue, Concrete grey, Turqoise and Black.
With the concept and theme for the collection 'ARMY BOYS' with reference to the film Lord of the flies by Harry Hook

This collection took alot of work and alot of effort, but I my opinion its finished.

The collection includes some classic carry-over models like the LowTops, HighTops and DesertBoots.
In some new and fresh colors.
The red colorway is back by popular demand. Only this time in red suede/nubuck (instead of the common red leather)

The introduction for a new model, called the BoatTop.
This is a very open en easy going sneaker for the summer.

"Designer and owner Filling Pieces/ Architecture Student"

Ok, so we’re going to start with a little history. Can you give us the 411 on your background?

I’m Surinamese, proud to be. I was born and raised in Holland.
My sister was a ballet dancer so I used to come to Amsterdam regularly, but I grew up in Heemskerk.
I don’t resent growing up there, it made me who I am. I grew up in a quiet environment. I always felt like it gave me the motivation to work hard make something out of myself.

Did growing up in Heemskerk influence your style of dress?

I always wanted to discern myself in through style and also in my manner of thinking. I didn’t want to be plain. Everybody wore similar outfits, you know G-Star, Jack & Jones..

When you were a child did your mother used to dress you or did you dress yourself?

Well I think every child has things that he/she doesn’t want to wear. But yes, my mother used to dress us. Luckily she has good taste and she’s really the most amazing woman I know. I have a little brother and a sister. She made sure that we looked sharp and decent.

Do you see yourself as a trendsetter in what you do?

Absolutely not , I’m not a trendsetter nor a follower of current trends. I look at the beauty which surrounds me. The reason why I started Filling Pieces is because shoes are so accessible. You see certain people buying shoes for the wrong reasons. They go for a specific brand and don’t really pay attention to the actual design of the shoe. With Filling Pieces, I want people to wear shoes in the most beautiful manner.

You say you look at beauty, can you tell me what beautiful things are to you?

Beautiful things to me are simple things. I’m not fond of patterns and bright colours, I like peaceful colours. Attention to detail, material and quality are important to me.

So you mentioned that you study architecture, why did you choose to do that?

It has always been a dream of mine to design things. I used to draw and create a lot when I was younger. My grandfather is a famous architect in Suriname and he introduced me to the craft of architecture. Personally I feel architecture is a form of art, you start with a concept and then you execute your idea. So it’s the same as many other forms of art. That’s how I started designing shoes.

Could you say that you’ll continue doing architecture or will you concentrate more on Filling Pieces?

Well, eventually I want to become one of the best architects. That’s always been my dream ever since I started studying. I also want to be a shoe designer and become the CEO of my own label. So I think I would like to keep doing both. I don’t think I could choose between the two. Of course it’s hard to combine the two, but I would very much like to have my own bureau and Filling Pieces next to that.

Could you describe the kind of person that would wear Filling Pieces?

Oh, God. That’s a hard question, I have though about it though when I started Filling Pieces. It’s a brand that matches with a certain outfit. It doesn’t necessarily complete the outfit. It’s meant for, and I don’t only mean artistic people, people who desire to wear it. Solemnly because it’s a beautiful shoe. It’s hard to describe the kind of person, but I can see 60 year old men wearing my shoe. I don’t see the average Gucci cap/shoulder bag hoodlum wearing Filling Pieces. I try to prevent that by designing shoes with non-average materials such as cow skin. Filling Pieces is not about being glamorous, I don’t incorporate anything shiny into my shoes to refrain from certain consumer groups. Eventually I don’t even have to make a lot of money with Filling Pieces, I just want people to wear my shoe. To me that’s the greatest honour.

Can you give us the meaning behind the brand Filling Pieces?

The name is self explanatory. I always felt there was a gap between your average sneaker such as Nike, Adidas, Puma. And the higher end dress shoe. You know Dior, Prada. Louis Vuitton. There are very few designers that are filling that gap. You know a guy that ‘s into street wear should be able to wear Filling Pieces. A more mature fellow who only wears suits should also have a shoe suitable for him to wear in his spare time.
That is the meaning of Filling Pieces. Bridging the gap.

How do you think your life will look like in the next 5 years?

I hope to be more experienced. To have the right friends and my family around. Hopefully my shoe line will be more sophisticated, and that more people will start to wear it. I would also like to have a team of designers who will work for my label and help me with designs. In addition I would also like to have had a few architectural assignments. That’s how I see myself in 5 years.

The brandlist of A Cut Above is really special, and I feel honored to be a part of it.
It was a cool party with friends and fam from Amsterdam and Belgium.

RZOstore with the FP summer collection

Last weekend I visited my second home, Yes that's Paris.
Along with the DailyPaper family we went to the PXA tournament.
The first day my brothers from Merystache (Dieylane,David,Merys,lenny and seb) and MontaigneStreet (Shyne,Mo and Martin) welcomed us with open arms. I made a visit by the RZO store who is already selling my shoes. After that we went to see the new BLACKRAINBOW shop at Rue Archives. I must say Ben and Jay did a great job on this new shop and concept!
That evening we went to The Barbershop with our good friend Herve Malauka, the BKRW party.

The day after PXA Paris was on the menu. Crazy tunes of L'afrique Som Sistema and Pain O Chokolat and some serious basketball game of teams like Pigalle, Colette, Reef, Blackrainbow and Soto.
That evening a very sick party with the same line up, next to SacreCoeur.

On sunday we visited the BlackRainbow brunch, and talked with all the pxa people.
ParisChapter was very crazy

During the trip we visited Bread and Butter, a fashion trade show, In Berlin.
It was cool to meet the guys of Pigalle, BlackRainbow and many more.
It was cool to see how many people were into the Filling Pieces sneakers. Planning to expand to Berlin soon.

The last evening the brothers of L'afrique rocked the Sport and Street party ft. Flexican and Pain O Chokalat.

Last month I visited Paris, France.
I think Paris is one of my favourite cities! I went on a trip with my good brothers from Daily Paper.
You already know the guys, but i need to mention them again! I knew the brothers from Daily Paper for a long time, but after this trip i know we are on the same page.
The brothers Huzane,Piewie,Ash, Jefferon and Neo went to introduce their brand D dot Paper (high end fashion label with african influences).
I had some meetings with stores and good people. All the respect goes out to RZO Store and Blackrainbow.
After some good meetings, 2 interesting stores came up with a business relationship.
RZO store (Yanik) was really impressed by the products. The store is in Rue Tiquetonne, and has a great wide colelction of brands ( RZOstore )
The second day I went to visit Jay Smith of BlackRainbow ( BKRW). The guy has so much knowledge about brands and streetfashion. I also met Ben (store manager) of BlackRainbow, very cool guy! They have a shop in shop at Citadium (Boulevard Hausmann), and soon a big concept store in Rue de Archives. We went to his birthdayBash in Barbershop Paris.
Pigalle Paris is a great store with alot of high-end fashion brands from all over the world. Pieces from Europe,Usa, Tokyo and many more.

Beside the store visits I Hooked up with my brother from Paris, Dieylane Cise. I know him for a long time and he is one of the most creative people I know. He took us to the Sacre Coeur and we made some cool Filling Pieces photos. Dieylane supported me all the way. He bought 2 pair of first classic FP a year ago. He is holding me and FP down for over a year in Paris.
We also hooked up with Herve, a good friend of Piewie. He showed us Paris, like no one can. Little streets with good restaurants and shops.

The last day we went to visit the Eiffel-tower, with some J'african, Magic System and Yacht sounds, Sun and drinks we had a great day!

The good news is that I will stock the Filling Pieces (summer collection) in the RZO store in 2 weeks. So Paris, 'eat your heart out'
The winter collection will also be available in RZO store and BlackRainbow rue the Archives.

My brothers from Daily Paper hosted this great party.
The videos made by YOJI were loved by every single person on the party
All the respect to MNK BLZVC, Red spot and last but not least D DOT Paper ( label of Daily Paper)
The collections were displayed on 6 big screens, and 1 smaller tv screens. Not a corny way to expose fashion in a club.
Also the photo expo was really nice.

January 2010, Bread and Butter Berlin
the Tradeshow/Trade Fair from europe, Berlin was really crazy
The crew/entourage: Paul and Orville (greenpaperboys), NoahDinero (DeeplyDope), Michel 'Big Boss' and me Filling Pieces.
The days in Berlin were really nice! People loved Filling Pieces over there. Alot of questions and comments like: "damn, what kind of shoes are those' , 'Cool, that must be a new brand' , 'Yo I really like your shoes'.
The first time that Filling Pieces showed up at such a international trade fair.
I learned alot, and met alot of great people in de scene.
The appartment @ Kochstrabbe and Checkpoint Charlie was luxe and big.
The Parties like Fashion TV and the underground dubstep party were off the hook.

Last weekend, my boys Paul en Orville (greenpaperboys),hooked me up with the change to expose Filling pieces in Maasilo,Rotterdam.
Meet The streets is a event that brings people together. In they way that Music, Culture, Art and collaborates. Our entourage:The Filling Pieces crew, GreenPaperBoys crew, Maras Wear and Daily Paper.
Artists like Winne, Flinke Namen and Dio performed for the crowd.
It was a fun night full of FP's, Fashion, Music, People and sociability

This 'sneaker' boutique is one of the spots you really need to go, when you're in Holland.
The more sportive brands like Nike, Jordan, Vans and New balance, they wanted to sell a brand more classic. That's why they also sell Filling Pieces now.
The label Filling Pieces is really the difference in style (within his brandlist)
Nowah (owner) really wants to be different compared to the other sneaker shops in Utrecht. Filling pieces will make this happen
When i visited, a cool guy on vans looked out for Jordans. I showed him the Filling Pieces desert boots. He really liked them and bought them within 2 minutes. Cool dude.

today was a busy day
also the mafb oneday shop in Amsterdam, a part of the downtown Amsterdam Internationale Fashion Week 2010
Richard Soesanna and Marianne Duff organized this event. Brands as IM KING, MISS WAX, Daily Paper, Marrasstraatwear, bijlmerstijl, your cup of tee and more. The Filling Pieces of mine were also exposed and displayed there.
I got some interesting comments and talks about the shoes.
It was cool to see that so much people loved the shoes and came to support MAFB
